youtubevideoconverter.com is a browser-based video and audio converter. Its defining property is that your files are never uploaded — every conversion runs on your own device.

How it works

FFmpeg, the tool that underpins most video software in existence, has been compiled to WebAssembly. That means it can run inside a browser tab at close to native speed rather than on a server. When you drop a file into the converter, your browser reads it from disk, processes it in memory and writes the result back out.

At no point does the file cross the network. There is no upload step, no server-side queue and no storage — which is why there is also no account, no daily limit and no paid tier. The processing is yours, so it costs us nothing to give away.

What this site does not do

Despite the domain name, this site does not download videos from YouTube. It converts files that are already on your device.

That is a deliberate decision. Tools that fetch video from YouTube have to defeat the platform’s rolling cipher to do it, and in February 2026 a US federal court held that doing so can breach the DMCA’s anti-circumvention rule independently of whether the copying itself would be fair use. If you want your own YouTube videos back, there is a supported route that produces better files than any ripper could: download them from YouTube Studio, then convert them here.

Honest limits

Running FFmpeg in a browser is slower than running it natively — roughly five to ten times — and it is bounded by the memory your browser will grant a single tab. In practice that means about 200MB on desktop and 40MB on mobile, with iOS Safari the tightest of all.

We show a real time estimate before a conversion starts and say plainly when a desktop application is the better tool. A converter that pretends it can handle a 4GB file and then crashes the tab is worse than one that tells you up front.

No tracking beyond the basics

There are no third-party trackers on the conversion tools, and there cannot be a record of what you converted, because the conversion never reaches us. Embedded YouTube previews on the tool pages use the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain.
